Leadership vs Management

What makes a person a great leader? There are misconceptions that because someone is a manager, that this makes them a leader. Just because someone may hold a management position, that does not necessarily mean they have the qualities that make them a solid leader.

I believe that leadership is about the individual and not about the title. There are leaders all around us. Look around at today’s social influencers and you will see that leaders come in all sorts of age groups, races, professions, and from little corners all over the world. Leadership does not mean you have power over another person, rather the power to influence others in a positive way. I often find that some of the greatest leaders don’t realize they are leaders at all. Leaders are the visionaries that take time to mentor others, value education, spend their time dedicated to social causes, and knows the value of collaboration.

How do you define leadership?

One way to think about leadership is how we all are leaders in our everyday lives. What are our individual and group strengths? And how are they show in our daily interactions with colleagues, supervisors, and followers?

Great Post. I also think that leaders walk the talk, and practice what they preach. They are very continuous of how their actions have positive and negative consequences. Whereas managers are typically driven by company goals and missions.
